We chose to do an adaptation of Curious George Visits the Zoo for our graduation play this year. Since we had to social distance, it seemed like a practical idea. We used the backyard of one of our sites for the location. Sections of portable fencing we have in our daycares became the "cages". These were placed 6 feet apart. A dog kennel was used as the monkey cage. Cut outs of zoo animals we have in stock were placed behind the children. A red balloon was tied to the cage and a second string came down for a child to hold.
The shy children were animals in their cages. They gladly dressed as different animals and made their animal noises. More outgoing children played the parts of George and the monkey in the cage.
Before graduation day the children made signs for the cages and a welcome to our zoo banner.
The owner rewrote the story to portray the animals we had costumes for and she read the story as children acted it out.
It was a huge success.
